End: Péronne
Kilometers: 15.9
Total: 78.6
We got going early. Alex wasn’t going to be moving fast, but unfortunately she would still have to hike to Péronne. Leaving our friends at camp, we started hiking.
At the first opportunity, while Alex took her pack off temporarily to adjust something, I grabbed it and wouldn’t give it back to her. I would carry both our packs in order to take the weight off her ankle.
We managed to take yet another wrong turn in Saint-Christ-Briost. Correcting ourselves, Timothy caught up with Miriam, Daniel, Alex, Andrew, and I. We made it out to the canal and continued the long hike North.
Before Brie, I led the kids along a road with heavy traffic, then we took a break on the North side of the town. Miriam had dropped a trekking pole, but Alex found it.
Guy and Isabella caught up to us, and our whole group moved on to hike in the countryside. In Mesnil-Bruntel, Guy found another hiker that he wanted to talk to, and the two of them set off for Péronne while the rest of us had lunch at the park.
We had made good time and were going to arrive at Péronne in the early afternoon. After a long lunch break, I got both packs on, carrying Alex’s pack on my front, as I had been.
The countryside was soon behind us, and we entered the suburbs of Péronne. Guy led us to a swimming center that he wanted to go to, and we waited for it to open. Guy and Isabelle graciously offered to take the kids while I got Alex set up at the AirBnB. I bought swimming suits for the kids, then Alex and I set off for the AirBnB.
I had a few chores to do. After Alex was settled in bed, I walked to a pharmacy and Picard, where I got some cream and ice for her ankle. By the time I got that back to her, it was time to get the kids.
I picked them up, and we said goodbye to our friends. They needed to go back home, and we needed to rest in town.
I got the kids back to the apartment, and went out to get groceries and McDonald’s for their dinner. We ended the day with some late night television for the kids. A nice break from the hike.
